We purchase our beeswax
in one-pound blocks. This wax varies in color depending on the diet
of the bees that produced it. We melt the wax on a stovetop to a
temperature of about 170F-180F. The wax is then allowed to cool to
pouring temperature, which is about 150-160F.
Next, we pour the
wax into molds. When the wax cools, it hardens and pulls away from
the sides of the mold. Then we remove the wax from the mold.
If the ornament is good (no bubbles or flaws) we then poke a hole for the
string and set it aside for trimming.
We trim the wax with
an exacto knife to make the edges smooth . After trimming, some of
the ornaments will be hand-painted or decorated; most remain as natural
wax.
The final step is
to apply candle sheen to the ornament to give it a shiny finish.
We also add a care sticker to the back of the ornament and a string for
hanging.
